The Chambersburg Area Senior High School track and field team, both boys and girls are currently in a long awaited season that could possible have many high hopes for a few of the individuals. The team competes in the most elite conference in the area with opponents such as Carlise, State College, Cumberland Valley, etc. Unfortunately both of the teams are currently 0-2 after facing off with two of the many strong teams in the conference, Carlise and State College. I interviewed a few of the captains and ask them about how they think the upcoming season will carryout.

Girls’ Team

The girls’ team is loaded in many of the events such as throwing, hurdles, sprints, and jumps!”, says coach Monhiem. He continued to tell me that even though they were loaded they still needed a few touches in some events. I had also went around and asked some of the captains (Cameron Ellis, Anna DeGranges, Sydnie Gilbert, Caroline Hance, and Ashley Adams) about how they thought the season was going. I asked Ashley (throwing captain) about how she thought the season will carry out for the team, “I think this will be a great season for us. We have a lot of talent and some of the best track and field athletes in the district. We are strong in about every event, and we put up great competition for other teams. I think if we continue to give every meet our all, then we will definitely have many more wins come our way. Also, we could possible have many post season achievements for many of the athletes.”

Boys’ Team

“I’m very pleased with my team this year!”, says Coach Walker (head coach of boys’ team). “The boys are very competitive in everything they do and are open to trying anything new.” The boys are very strong in many of the events. They have many key players that are constantly putting up points during meets, such as Tyeshawn Worrell, Dionte Barbour, Nate Cooper, Carter Jones, both 4×1 and 4×4 relay teams, etc. The captains of the boys teams are Brock Harmon, Tyeshawn Worrell, and Trentin Overcash. I asked Tyeshawn about how the season will carry out this year, “ Even though we started out the season with two losses to very good teams, I think the rest of the season will go very well from here on out. Many more of our athletes are stepping up for the challenge and we have plenty of talent on the team.”

Both teams are very confident and have a strong feeling that they will step it up in the near future to bring the record back to the top. Practicing five days a week for two hours making a difference in these young athletes lives. They are stepping up their game and finishing strong. So come out and support the track team! It’s worth it!
