The seventh annual Walk a Mile took place in downtown Chambersburg on May 3rd, 2019. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an opportunity for men to raise money and awareness about the serious causes and effects, trying to put a stop to men’s sexualized violence against women.

The name is very literal, men are asked to walk a mile in womens´ high heels. Although the walk is painful, it can be a fun and easy way to raise awareness and get the talk moving about a topic that is typically very difficult to discuss throughout a community.

This event benefits RISE, which stands for, Rape Intervention Services and Education. This organization was founded in 1987, this amazing group offers education about the issue, assistance to victims, accompanies them to go wherever they need to that allowed them to tell their story after the incident and confidential counseling/support groups.

My boyfriend, Ethan Remsburg, has supported this cause and walked a mile in high heels for a few years, ¨I have been doing the walk since it was first brought to Chambersburg three years ago, I have participated every year.” I asked him his opinion on the walk and why he does it yearly, ¨Walk a Mile means a lot to me, it gives me a chance to go and express my opinion on rape and sexual assault by doing something as simple as walking a mile in high heels. As the years go on and I continue to do it, I feel like I am slowly making a difference.¨ After watching him walk in red high heels, I asked him how his feet felt afterwards, ¨My feet hurt A LOT, but the soreness and blisters were 100% worth it.¨
