The Life of Elijah Cummings

In his lifetime, he accomplished many things. Elijah Cummings was born on January 18th, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated high school in 1969 and started his journey to becoming a Congressman. 

He received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Howard University then graduated with his Master’s at the University of Maryland.

Cummings first began his career in the Maryland House of Delegates. He served for 14 years and was the first African American in the state’s history to be named Speaker Pro Tem.

In 1996, Cummings was elected into Congress representing Maryland. He worked to improve Maryland, especially Baltimore.

Sadly, Congressman Elijah Cummings life came to an end on Thursday, October 17th, 2019. The cause of death was health issues. He was 68 years old. Given that age, Elijah Cummings did great things. Cummings will be remembered by many; his home state will never forget him.
